VELASHAPE Masterclass

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I had a fantastic trip to Perthshire, Scotland last week to present a masterclass on Velashape and Refirme.

Syneron, the manufacturers of Velashape, had invited me up to present to a group of 25 doctors and beauticians, all of whom were keen to learn about the possibilities of Velashape in their cosmetic practices. I have a very good working relationship with Syneron, having been the only UK cosmetic doctor present at the Harley Street launch of Velashape.

I was able to provide a thorough demonstration of my technique for tightening tummies, reducing cellulite and sculpturing buttocks.

The event, held at the lovely Knock Castle Spa, was a great success.

FACE 2009

Monday, December 1st, 2008

I am delighted and honoured to have been invited to speak at FACE 2009, the leading international cosmetic medicine conference.

An honour on any occasion, this year will be particularly memorable, as I will be speaking alongside Dr Jean Carruthers, one of the world’s leading experts on Botox (Vistabel), and arguably, the doctor responsible for establishing the effectiveness and safety of Botox in cosmetic medicine.

I will be using my legal expertise to speak and advice on communication skills and dispute resolution in cosmetic medicine.

I have recently published on this subject in the leading journal, Bodylanguage. Click here to link to an overview of the article, or see my consultancy page for details on risk management consultancy work for your practice. I have further articles booked for 2009 on dispute resolution.

Client or patient?

Friday, June 6th, 2008

I’ve just analysed the results from an interesting survey. I asked my clients/patients which term they preferred - client or patient? Surprisingly, the majority prefer the term patient. This is surprising as the overwhelming trend in recent years has been towards use of the term client, with doctors fearing that the term patient implies a relationship of power imbalance, patriacharcal institutionalised medical hierarchies and dependence.

Some guys at the BMJ got very upset about this a few years ago; “Do we need a new word for patients?”

Not so say my patients. They see the word patient as an indicator of a relationship of trust, confidence and caring.

I’m pleased about that, because it sits much better with the ethos I want to create at ShapeCYMRU.

Thanks to the many who responded to my e-questionnaire.

International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

I was honoured to be recently awarded membership of the International Academy of Advanced Facial Aesthetics.

I have previously trained with the IAAFA President, Dr Bob Khanna, who was a fabulous teacher of ingenious techniques with an equally ingenious product, Evolence.

Following Dr Khanna’s lead, I now use Evolence as my preferred product for facial volumisation - the best treatment for nasolabial folds, marionette lines and facial recontouring.

Evolence is available now at my Swansea salon, ShapeCYMRU.

Harley Street Launch of VELASHAPE

Dr Steve Bassett & Dr Tess Mauricio

I was honoured to be the only cosmetic physician from the UK invited to the launch of Velashape.

The prestigious event, at the Private Clinic, 98 Harley Street, was attended by top journalists from Hello, OK, Grazia, Glamour, Top Sante, Weight Watchers and many others.

Velashape was introduced by Dr Tess Mauricio from San Diego, an internationally renowned expert on skin rejuvenation and cellulite, and TV cosmetic doctor. BTW, Tess’s website has great Velashape and Refirme results photographs.

The audience was hugely impressed by the elos technology in Velashape - safe, fast, effective and affordable.

It was a great opportunity for me to discuss with Tess the superiority of elos over LASER and IPL, and to compare results.

We’re in regular touch by e-mail and excited about bringing this great, safe and straightforward technology to our respective salons.
